Dr. Jeb Weisman

Chief Information Officer, Children’s Health Fund (CHF)

Jeb Weisman is Chief Information Officer for the Children’s Health Fund (CHF) and Director of CHF’s Center for Community Health Technology.  He serves as the consulting Director of Information Systems and Technology for Community Pediatric Programs at Montefiore Medical Center, as well.  In addition to more than 25 years of professional work and invention in health information systems and education, Dr. Weisman is a social science researcher and educator specializing in advanced information technologies, healthcare, society, and culture.

In his roles with the CHF, Dr. Weisman has overseen the conceptualization, design, and development of three generations of pediatric primary care electronic health record systems (EHR), specialized electronic data-based systems targeted at the complex organizational and compliance challenges of managing sub-specialty referrals and transportation logistics, and a variety of software and health information exchange applications to support pediatric and family healthcare.  In addition, Dr. Weisman has established a successful project to develop a comprehensive content/data collection set for pediatric-focused EHRs

In 2008, the New York Children’s Health Project (NYCHP) received the HIMSS Davies Community Health Organization Award.  The award acknowledges the quality of care provided using health information technology designed and implemented under Dr. Weisman’s.

His current projects include extending The Children’s Health Fund Comprehensive Pediatric Primary Care Electronic Health Record Content Specification, the development of an application for management, tracking, and study of pediatric obesity and Type II diabetes, establishing and operationalizing pediatric clinical decision support quality and outcomes measures for EHRS, the development of data collection and reporting tools to support adolescent reproductive health research, and collaborations with leading children’s medical centers implementing EHRs.

Dr. Weisman holds a Ph.D. in anthropology, specializing in the dynamics of human-technology relationships, challenges and opportunities presented by health information systems, and the practical application of human-computer systems in public service.  He is Director of Strategic Technologies for the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University and is a graduate student advisor and researcher at The SmartLab Digital Media Institute, University College Dublin, Dublin Ireland with an appointment at OCAD University, Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Weisman is a member of a variety of scholarly and professional organizations including the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS), the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), the American Anthropological Association (AAA), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He serves on a variety of advisory, education, and technical boards.  He teaches and lectures on the practical and theoretical challenges of the humane application of technology to social, health care, and global concerns.
